{"id":13,"date":"2018-09-10T01:28:53","date_gmt":"2018-09-10T01:28:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bigdev.ca\/kellyskinner\/?page_id=13"},"modified":"2023-08-11T11:36:17","modified_gmt":"2023-08-11T15:36:17","slug":"bio","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/bigdev.ca\/kellyskinner\/bio\/","title":{"rendered":"Bio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My research focuses on\u00a0<strong>community-based health and social projects related to food, nutrition, physical activity, food security, and the broader context of food systems and environments<\/strong>.\u00a0This research has primarily been with people living in remote and northern locations in Canada.\u00a0\u200b<\/p>\n<p>I am currently an Associate Professor in the School of Public Health Sciences at the University of Waterloo and and hold a CIHR-PHAC Applied Public Health Chair position.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022 I became the CIHR-PHAC Applied Public Health Chair. The Chair has an emphasis on community action, self-determination, and knowledge sharing, to better understand the intersections between food security and climate change with Indigenous communities in the Northwest Territories.<\/p>\n<p>In August 2015 I completed my postdoctoral fellowship at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lakeheadu.ca\/\">Lakehead University<\/a>\u00a0with funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cihr-irsc.gc.ca\/e\/8668.html\">Institute of Indigenous Peoples Health<\/a>. My co-supervisors were\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lakeheadu.ca\/users\/M\/cjmushqu\/node\/17344\">Dr. Christopher Mushquash<\/a>\u00a0(Department of Psychology) and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lakeheadu.ca\/users\/B\/kburnett\">Dr. Kristin Burnett<\/a>\u00a0(Department of Indigenous Learning).<\/p>\n<p>I obtained my PhD in 2013 in Health Studies and Gerontology\u00a0in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ahs.uwaterloo.ca\/\">Faculty of Health<\/a>\u00a0at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.uwaterloo.ca\/\">University of Waterloo<\/a>.
